If you like soda drinking and think that it does not do any harm to you. Think again. Drinking soda, pop, cola or soft drink can cause more harm than you can think. We are going to use the research from Dr Maoshing Ni who is a Yahoo health Researcher. You can look for more of his works from the site. But for now, let’s dig deep into the world of soft drinks.

Soda drinking gives you very little nutritional value. On one hand, the soda virtually contains no vitamin or essential nutrient. On the other hand, it can bring many health problems. You can find caffeine, carbonate, sugars, and sugar substitutes in soda or soft drinks. Many times, some of the soft drinks have food additives like artificial coloring, flavoring and preservatives. These ingredients are not so healthy. Read on and find out more.

There are many researches that show the results of health problems after consistent consumption of soft drinks in high quantity. The problems include tooth decay, nutritional depletion, obesity, some type of diabetes and heart disease.

Most soft drinks have too much sugar. Some of them have more sugar than what you should have. For example, USDA recommends that we should not take sugar for more than 2,000 K Calories or ten teaspoons in one day. Researches show that many soft drinks have more than that!

Too much sugar is bad because it causes your body to secrete more insulin. Insulin is a hormone secreted from pancreas. It is for reducing the blood sugar level. When the body detects that the sugar level is too high, it raises insulin levels in blood. Unfortunately, having too high insulin can lead to the depletion of the immune system. That means your body will have less ability to fight disease.

The excess sugar will be stored in fat form. You will become fatter and you can have more risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer. There were studies showing that having high sugar diet can cause elevated rate of breast cancer.

How about having diet soda instead? You may ask.

Diet soda contains artificial sweeteners including aspartame, sucralose or saccharin. Saccharin can cause cancer in some subjects. Aspartame stimulates the brain to think that the drink you take is sweet. There was a study done in Texas showing that having too much aspartame can cause you fat. Because of the brain intervention, you will be craving for more sweets and eat more carbohydrate.

In addition, the carbonated drinks with bubbles have phosphoric acid. It can severely deplete the blood calcium. Calcium is a key component of the bone. This means that drinking sodas and carbonated water increases your risk of having osteoporosis.

Some of the sodas contain caffeine. Caffeine can deplete the body’s calcium. In addition to stimulating your central nervous system, caffeine can cause stress and insomnia.

Soda drinking has become a habit for many modern-day people. However, if you have known what negative impacts it can cause to you, you may want to reconsider whether you should drink it.
