One of the popular suggestions to the middle age people is that they should not eat egg because it can increase the level of cholesterol in the blood. That is not true. Let’s see what egg can do to our body and how irrelevant it is to implicate egg with high cholesterol in blood.

Joan Lunn who is a nutritionist at the national nutrition foundation in UK confirms that egg is a valuable source of nutrition. One chicken egg contains 13 nutrients for example major vitamins vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin E, vitamin D. Also, it has Iodine which helps producing thyroid hormone. Phosphorous which is a necessary mineral for bone and teeth maintenance can also be found in egg.

fried_eggWe don’t like too much fat in our food and blood. But there is one type of blood fat which is a good fat. It is called HDL or High Density Lipoprotein. HDL helps the body to get rid of the bad and dangerous fat like LDL or VLDL. One interesting fact is that eating egg can increase the level of HDL. Therefore, it is possible that it can help reducing bad fat in our blood circulation.

The most interesting type of the ingredients in egg is Choline. It is an ingredient found in nerve cells. It is also an essential nutrient for producing brain cells. Choline plays a very important role because it is part of neurotransmitter called Acetyl Choline. Acetyl Choline controls the function of brain and nervous system. It is believed that the lack of Acetyl Choline is a course of Alzheimer disease or lack of memory in elder people. Therefore, egg can help you preventing the loss of memory in your latter years.

There was a research done in 100, 000 subjects. They were asked to eat an egg everyday for a certain period. The result showed that there was no relationship between having egg and high cholesterol in the blood. The research confirmed that eating egg does not increase your blood cholesterol. Therefore, you don’t have to avoid it. Instead, what you should avoid include milk, butter, saturated fat like palm oil or coconut oil, and red meat. Also, you will have to stop smoking and exercise more in order to reduce their blood cholesterol level.

Eating egg is not as bad as you think. On the contrary, not eating egg is what you should avoid. Egg contains many things that our body needs. Therefore, you should not stop or limit eating it when you get older.
