If you are women who are above your forties, you should have at least an hour of moderate activity a day. In this case, you will be able to maintain your weight without dieting. If you do not exercise, you will not be able to avoid gaining weight without eating less. This article will talk about the study which exposed this fact.
The study is published in Wednesday’s Journal of American Medical Association. They just use women as subjects. The researchers are from Harvard’s Brigham and Women Hospital. They said that the result may or may not be applicable to men.
There were 34,000 non-dieting middle aged women. The study have followed them for 13 years and found that they have gained an average of almost six pounds during the study.
Study showed that the women who started out at a healthy weight, with the body mass index of less than 25, will gain no weight if they have an hour of moderate activity daily. Only a few women can do this. In the study, there were only 13 per cent in this category.
The moderate activities here include brisk walking, leisurely bicycling and golfing. You will need at least one hour a day for these activities. But if you cannot do it for the length of an hour, you can still benefit from exercise. It is good for your health even if it won’t help make you thin.
The results of the study have confirmed the medical report in 2002 that emphasized the importance of balancing diet and exercise. The report recommended at least 60 minutes of moderate activity for adults and children. However, the study also indicated that half an hour of exercise five days a week won’t stop weight gain while getting older without cutting calories. Therefore, you should go for an hour of exercise if you don’t want to change your diet.
Exercise, apart from making you look good, can help keep the heart healthy and protect against chronic disease. Although, you don’t want to lose weight, you still need exercise.
Follow the right diet plan to lose weight and fat without starving yourself to death.
